Cosmetic plastic-free: what are they and where to buy them?

Plastic-free packaging consists of environmentally friendly packaging without the use of plastic. They are very popular because they contribute in a serious way to the reduction of the plastic in circulation and consequently of its disposal, with a considerable saving in terms of costs.

The company produces innovative solid cosmetics with plastic-free packaging, highly sustainable and environmentally friendly products, also for the Hotel sector.

Solid cosmetics are cosmetics that are presented in a solid, that is, compact form, and for this reason they can be placed in packaging of paper or cardboard or other eco-sustainable materials (e.g. aluminum). The solution of the packaging in paper or cardboard, especially if coming from certified productions, is however the most economical and eco-sustainable solution, because it is completely recyclable.

Formulas of the firm cosmetics do not contain water. The natural ingredients, including the enrichments and extracts, give a final appearance similar to that of a bar of soap.

Thanks to the absence of water, solid cosmetics do not contain aggressive preservatives and are therefore more gentle on the skin and hair.

The formulation varies according to the type of solid cosmetic, but most of them have ingredients of natural origin, vegan, are not tested on animals, and are dermatologically tested.

Thanks to specialized production lines, Albogroup produces solid cosmetic products of the highest quality, formulated with the best ingredients and enriched with natural and organic extracts specific for every type of skin and hair. Albogroup for years has understood the importance of proposing also for the Hotel sector this type of solid products for cleansing the body and hair and offers its customers the possibility of creating or customizing their lines with third party services in able to satisfy any request. In fact, more and more companies, including important brands, are turning to Albogroup for the production on a third party of their solid cosmetic lines, especially Shampoos, Balms, Body Wash and Shower Baths.

Packaging packs of Cardboard

In addition to aluminium, carton board can also be used to produce optimal packaging for plastic-free cosmetics. This material has long been known as one of the most economical and sustainable: it can still be used with extreme ease and has a low impact on the environment. Although carton board has a lower life cycle than the other materials mentioned above, its strong point is recyclability.

Packaging packs of Aluminium

Aluminium is an excellent packaging, as it can cover and guarantee a high safety to the product. In addition, it can act as packaging by itself, without the need to add another secondary one: this can lead to the production of little waste and zero waste.

Bioplastics or vegetable plastics

Although a material is recyclable it is not said that it is also sustainable. The two concepts are in fact quite different and often do not match; for this you need to pay attention to the cosmetics you buy.

If, for example, you buy a product in recyclable packaging, the raw materials of which have been sourced from natural sources, this does not mean that cosmetics are both sustainable.

The plastic was invented in 1965 in order to prevent many trees from being cut down due to the increased use of paper of that period, and therefore the consequent and constant felling of trees. Such material was among the first choices as seen as sustainable and could be reused. Later, the tetrapack was made, which was less polluting than plastics.

We are still looking for solutions to create packaging and protect cosmetics without any plastic and that are completely sustainable, so that they have a minimal if not zero impact on the environment. Currently 99% of the packaging in the cosmetic industry uses plastic material. To achieve the next step towards sustainability, we recommend the use of recycled PET plastics, a material obtained from the recycling of plastics.

There are some examples that are particularly useful for understanding what can be truly sustainable packaging and at the same time useful both for the protection of cosmetics and to fully meet the needs and expectations of the consumer. An example of good packaging is from vegetable ingredients such as potato starch, corn or soy. These form completely biodegradable and versatile materials, are also less polluting and come from renewable sources.

The latter presents a series of solid cosmetics aimed at reducing waste while inviting the user to apply only the necessary amount of product. With normal packaging and made with plastic, in fact, it can happen to exceed the amount of cosmetics when this is not really necessary, thus leading to a lot of waste, a greater amount of waste and a higher environmental impact.

For this reason the products belonging to the Solid line. O Original are made as solid bars, which must be divided into two parts/doses to avoid waste.

The Solid product collection. O Original is a real elegant example made by Albogroup on how to produce and design high quality solid cosmetics with attractive packaging, modern and completely eco-sustainable. In addition to the typical products, there are also customization services for hotels or on behalf of other distribution channels.
